Trip Details

Ask any local; one of the best things to do when visiting the lovely coastal town of Bodrum is to take a day trip (or two, or several) to the nearby islands by boat. Since 1993, as locals ourselves, we have been offering daily boat trips to Black Island and Orak Island every day of each summer season. Join us on a trip across the turquoise waters, with five stops for swimming and exploring at beautiful bays, many or which are only accessible by boat. Our Black Island trip takes approximately six hours, with the boat departing every day at 11 am and returning at about 5 pm. This option is the shorter of the two trips offered as Black Island lies closer to Bodrum. Sailing time is shorter and breaks are more frequent. First stop: Black Island Hot Water Springs & Cleopatra's Cave Black Island is an inactive volcanic island. Our first stop on Black Island is at a water cave from which natural hot spring waters spill into the sea. Cleopatra is rumoured to have visited these thermal springs to refresh her youth and beauty. A pool built around the entrance of the cave captures the thermal waters as they mix with the sea - guests can disembark from the boat and take a dip in the pool. You can also swim into the water cave, which widens further in, and lather on the natural mud which has been revealed by an Istanbul University study to help with several skin problems. Second stop: Meteor Hole Next we visit the Meteor Hole, an inexplicable 18-metre deep sinkhole underwater by the shore. Locals theorise that a rock from space must have fallen just there to create such a sudden drop where one can otherwise stand waist-deep in the water. Snorkels or goggles are an absolute must at this stop. Third stop: Poyraz Aquarium This stop is a favourite of many guests. A bay behind the island with beautiful pale blue waters and sand at the bottom, here we take our longest break of one hour and enjoy lunch, included in your ticket. Fourth and fifth stops: Rabbit Bay & Sand Bay Twin swimming locations far out on the mainland, we take a half-hour break at each on our return journey to Bodrum. These are lovely spots to enjoy a final dip or to rest on board and sunbathe. Contrary to its name, there are not many rabbits at Rabbit Bay, but a lucky traveller may be the first to spot one in a while. Unfortunately, whilst previously inaccessible by car, construction of lofty private villas have begun near these secluded bays, but we can enjoy them in peace for a while more yet.
